Normalization is a process for evaluating and correcting table structures to minimizing data redundancies, thereby, reducing the likelihood of data anomalies. The first three normal forms (1NF, 2NF, and 3NF) are most commonly encountered. From a structural point of view, higher normal forms are better than lower normal form, because higher normal forms yields relatively fewer data redundancies in the database. Almost all business designs use 3NF as the ideal normal form.
Discuss the following questions:
1) When is a table in 1NF (First Normal Form)?
2) When is a table in 2NF (Second Normal Form)?
3) When is a table in 3NF (Third Normal Form)?
4) Select a database of your choice. Show and describe an example in each normal form.
