This module examines the Affordable Care Act ( ACA). Healthcare reform and the effects on the consumer as well as the provider and healthcare worker. In this module you will examine who is affected by the Act, as well as the goals of this reform. You will also examine the transition from traditional healthcare to one with a strong governmental influence.

Objectives:

After completing this module, you will be able to do the following:

• Understand the ideological debates that define the politics of national health insurance in the United States.
• Explain how the ACA bill was signed into law.
• Review implementation of the ACA.
• Describe the role of the individual mandate, adverse selection, cost control, and quality of the act.
• Explicate how the ACA addresses problems of access, cost, and quality.
